Sir Isaac Brock To Get a Facelift

Brock Monument Queenston HeightsThe Brock Monument at Queenston Heights has been closed to visitors since 2004 because of deterioration. Previously visitors could climb the steep, narrow and circular staircase inside the monument to the top which provided an amazing view of the Niagara Penninsula.

The monument was constructed between 1853 and 1856 as a tribute to General Brock who led the troops in the war of 1812 and died a hero at Queenston Heights.

It is estimated that the cost of renovation will exceed $2 million.
The monument is structurally sound and most of the renovations will take place on its exterior which is made of limestone. This soft material tends to crack and fall off over a period of time. A major task during the renovation will be building the scaffolding around the 56 metre structure. Construction is to begin sometime in April of this year and last throughout the summer months.
